Rundle Mall is a popular shopping area in Adelaide.

Quite an involved 7-8 week job. My roles involved environment and some character design, lighting/texture lead, model supervision with overseas and interstate outsource companies, pipeline creation and management, matte painting and rendering. Phew!

This animation posed more than a few challenges for the team. Firstly, at the time we couldn't get more than 5 character rigs into a single scene at one time without the computers melting, so groups of characters were tracked and rendered so that they could sit underneath other character groups. An edit of the sequence needed to be produced every day or two to show the client and agency, which was difficult considering the whole ad was one continuous shot.

We hadn't the time or processing power to create the lighting and environment animation in 3D, so we rendered out lighting information passes for every element and animated them changing in comp.
